In The Art of Piping, we’re picking up the piping bag and learning one of the most versatile, and sometimes intimidating, skills in cake decorating.

Because beautiful piping isn’t just about having the right tip. It’s about buttercream consistency, pressure, angle, movement and knowing which technique to use to create the look you want.

During this two-hour hands-on class, Nichole will break piping down step-by-step, giving you plenty of time to practice each technique before bringing those skills together on your cake.

• How and when to use couplers
• How piping tip shapes and sizes create different designs
• Open star vs. closed star tips, and when to use each
• Proper piping angles, pressure and hand positioning
• How buttercream consistency affects your piping
• How to start and stop piping cleanly
• How to create consistent shapes and sizes
• Classic borders- like shells and beads
• Swirls and rosettes
• Basic roses and leaves
• Simple writing techniques
• How to troubleshoot common piping problems

You’ll begin by practicing techniques, so there’s room to experiment, make mistakes and get comfortable with the piping bag before creating your finished design.

Then you’ll put those new skills to work, that you can use at home on your next masterpiece.
